I have been a high school teacher for quite a long while. I have seen my own students grow up. For some, those who were unfortunate enough, life was cut short because of wrongdoers who are so heartless as to kill for money.
One of my students was hospitalized for numerous months after she was raped by a group of male teenagers. Up to this moment, she is still recovering from that life-altering incident.
I am ever conscious of making personal safety a part of my lectures. I constantly tell my students not to stay out after sundown and to keep self defense devices with them as their allies toward protection.
I educate my charges on how a stun gun, Taser, personal security alarm and pepper spray should be used responsibly. I encourage parents to install home security systems like a hidden camera, spy camera or surveillance camera.
Whenever I see a student taking the issue of personal safety to heart, it brings me joy. Many are encouraged enough to pass the lessons I have imparted on self defense devices to their own set of peers.
One of my students confided in me how her pepper spray saved her from being robbed and potentially gunned down. She greatly appreciated the efforts I have taken to instruct them on the importance of personal safety.
Some of my fondest moments in school have involved students introducing me to their newest procurements of a travel alarm, safety light or home safety alarm, broaching the subject of self defense devices with gusto.
I feel as though personal safety completes my teaching vocation. I am happy to have given adolescents a fighting chance out there on dangerous streets, of course, with the aid of self defense devices.
