Exercising & Weight Reduction
If there was an Olympic event for obesity, then Australia all around should be the gold champion!
A 2008 Study entitled “Australia’s Future Fat Bomb” observed that 26% of Australians are clinically obese (Body Mass Index >30 i.e. significantly obese.) The US came a little behind at 25%. The Statement also showed that 7 out of 10 middle-aged men, and 6 out of 10 middle-aged women are overweight (i.e. BMI >25.) This is an epidemic!
According to the Report Summary… “Fortunately, fat reduction may be accomplished through life-style adjustments for example improved actual activity and dietary modifications.”
This message is being spread out into the community at large, in federal government wellness programs, on Television, by the media and it is now ingrained in the very fabric of Australian contemporary society. But we’re still growing fatter!
Even worse, should you in fact check the medically researched evidence you uncover that “exercise more, consume good stuff, eliminate the bad stuff” options do not operate. It’s may possibly seem unbelievable, but that’s what the evidence indicates.
First of all, moving more, aka physical exercise, just isn’t a great fat loss strategy. That can appear amazing to many folks, but this is not theory. The authoritative Cochrane Collaboration summary from the analysis on”obesity and exercise is damning. It says physical exercise is great for numerous issues, such as living longer and feeling physically and mentally better, however it only provides an average of 1 kilogram of weight reduction. I’ve never had a patient consult me to help them shed a ‘mere’ one kilogram – and yet they still turn to physical exercise.
Secondly, basically cutting back again on what you eat or avoiding particular foods, i.e. dieting, is flawed as well. Dieting succeeds lengthy term for less than 10% with the population. For most folks, dieting is a lot more likely to trigger weight Gain inside the long-run. Any fat lost appears to arrive back above time, and with a small bit extra. This is the so-called yo-yo dieting effect. Research following study on every thing from surgery, to pills, to well-known diet plan programs, exhibits the exact same anti-gravity pattern. Weight that goes down, much more frequently than not merely comes back again up. That was my experience as a loved ones medical doctor.
What I came to recognize is the fact that this ‘good advice’, and all my medical suggestions, was wrong. Yet even for those who believe they have tried and failed at seemingly every method there’s info about why you haven’t succeeded, and what you are able to do instead.

Luxury Australian Travel
Australia is a fantastic place to experience a touch of luxury.
There are some wonderfully luxurious hotels, spas and resorts here in Australia as well as some indulgent experiences too. This article aims to highlight some of the best.
These are my top 3 recommendations for pure luxury in Australia
1) Hayman Island, The Whitsundays
If you fancy a beach resort holiday then the Whitsundays offers arguably the best beaches in Australia. The water is warm and a brilliant blue, and the beaches are a pristine white. This collection of islands offers a variety of accommodation but the best is Hayman Island. From the moment you step aboard their private boat to whisk you to the island with champagne in hand, you know you are in good hands.
As you would expect, the facilities at Hayman are outstanding with every detail and every desire being catered for. There is plenty to keep you occupied on this private island. There are some great day trips including helicopter rides over the islands. Or why not enjoy diving or snorkeling in the waters surrounding Hayman.
A room here can cost about $45 AUD per night. If that sounds like a bargain then you may want to try Lizard Island or Wilson Island. These resorts are much smaller giving them an air of exclusivity with a price tag to match.
2) Take a Ride on the Ghan
If you’d like to witness one of the most stunning journeys in Australia then take a ride on the Ghan train. The journey takes in Adelaide, the red centre and the Australian outback before heading up to Darwin. There are stop offs at Alice Springs and Katherine too. It will make you realise just how large Australia is.
The train journey on the Ghan takes 48 hours and costs approx. $2000 AUD for a luxury cabin. This is one experience you won’t want to miss.
3) Moondance Lodge – Enjoy Australian Wine
Perhaps the best wine region in Australia, the Margaret River is located just 3 hours from Perth. This is a great place to experience two of the best things about Australia – it’s wine and it’s pristine beaches. Here you can easily combine the two and enjoy some fantastic food served by many of the wineries.
If you want 5 star luxury in this area then head to Moondance Lodge. This beautiful place is centrally located making it easy to explore the Margaret River. It is set on a lake and has great spa facilities. Their excursions and experiences are also worth going on.
Luxury on a budget
There are still ways of experiencing a slice of luxury even if you are on a budget. Why not treat yourself to just one or two nights at a fancy resort rather than your entire trip. Make it a surprise for your other half and put the passion back into your relationship.
What about planning a special day? A great idea is to pack a luxury picnic and enjoy some wonderful views. In Sydney you can hire a boat at Rose bay and cruise the Sydney harbour. No prior sailing knowledge is necessary and there are plenty of bays you can stop off at to enjoy your picnic.
Keep a look out for bargains as you never know when you might see one. I recently saw the famous Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island at nearly a third of their usual high prices. A party had cancelled leaving them plenty of extra rooms to fill and quickly. The website wotif.com is very useful for finding last minute bargains.

Beautiful Gold Coast Nature
It’s funny, in running a surfboard hire company and enjoying the best Australia has to offer the surfing world , I often forget just how diverse and special Australia’s Gold Coast really is. This last weekend though was one of those rare ones when I was reminded what a beautiful life we have up here and just how much we have to offer to the millions of holidaying visitors we are lucky to host each year.
As a bit of background to my re-awakening weekend, my wife and I are recently pregnant with our first baby. This baby, a blessing though it definitely is for us, was not 100% planned and therefore our preparations for “family” were a little behind where we would ideally have liked them. That being the case, we have really dug in over the last 2 – 3 months, working our butts off to pay off credit cards and buy baby stuff so we will be ready when our pride and joy arrives in September. As such, we have not really gotten out much recently, we’ve turned a bit hermetic.
That weekend was a long one is Queensland. Monday was a holiday, making it a three-day weekend. On Friday night, friends from Sydney came up to visit and we all decided we’d head out for a big night in town. Since we’ve been home so often in recent times, the experience was awesome. We kicked things off with a dinner on Broadbeach’s elegant restaurant row. The meal was exquisite and afterward we hit Surfers Paradise to check back in on some Gold Coast nightlife. We had come pretty close to forgetting how fun a night out in Goldy can be.
After sleeping late on the Saturday, my partner and I packed ourselves into our car and drove as little as 1 hour to have a weekend away from the beach, and explore the beautiful Gold Coast hinterland. This mountainous area really is sensational, hosting some amazing wineries (which I enjoyed much more than my pregnant wife
), some superbly relaxing retreats (which she enjoyed more than me) and the perfect balance of peace and serenity to ensure we returned home, fully recharged and ready to face the daily grind again.
If you are going to visit the Gold Coast, be sure to leave some time to visit the hinterland, one of the real treasures of the area. The Gold Coast in Queensland has so much to offer and the hinterland is one of its finest spots.
On Monday, we headed home via a circuitous route, leaving time for some lunch and also to do some fishing. With the river’s mouth and ocean not far off, we cast out our lines from the banks into the estuaries.
As we were enjoying this peaceful couple of hours (despite catching nothing!) I couldn’t help but reflect what a fishing paradise we had on our doorstep also. I could see a string of surf fishermen less than 500m away, casting out into the ocean from the beach. At times I watched the little dingies bobbing through the estuaries, finding their little secret spots. All the while, the deep sea fishing charters where returning from their half day outings, hunting their game fish in the oceans. What more variety could a fisherman want?
Making our way home, it was hard to ignore what a beautiful life we have here on the Goldy. These things are just a part of life in Queensland, where the natural wonders of the world are here for all to see and experience. Add on top of that some of the big tourist attractions like the theme parks and there is little mystery as to why the tourists are coming back year after year.
So many people continue to come back again and again. Next time, ditch the fancy cocktail bars and elegant dining rooms and venture out a bit into the picturesque countryside, where nature and tranquility will put any worried mind at ease. You’ll be glad you decided to do it.
Damian Papworth realizes women find it challenging to pack a suit case for Gold Coast hotels Australia as there is so many things to see. Choosing the appropriate women’s clothing to pack can be a real conundrum.
